12-26-2010 - Hello, here is a new shape tool, wish you like it. I am a old fan of FA since 1999. I still like it today, and happy to see there are some people not only like it, but also upgrade it to FAF.

I just release a tool which can be used to edit FA shape files visually.
This tool is called FASHion, you can find it at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fash/.
The instruction is included, or you can see at:
http://jkpeterson.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2007 for more detail.

I am happy to join FAF team and meet all you guy. Happy New year 2011 !

08-22-2010 - Success Creating Tanks that have Revolving Turrets...!! So far there are only a few draw backs (that I will explain in a bit) and overall the new moving turrets are a welcome addition to realism in the sim...
The tanks were more difficult than, say, SAMs or AAA vehicles, because the game has very special command structure for tanks when they engage each other, and creating functional turrets that worked with this narrow definition of commands was difficult at best and a nightmare at worst! However I was able to strike a compromise I think you will like!
The tank either moves or stays stationary while the turret revolves and engages targets, destroying them with either direct tank cannon fire or with 50 cal secondary machinegun fire, at the same time firing off smoke grenades to hide their location from enemy tanks (works VERY well against tanks that have only optical targetting and no laser range finders).... 03-28-2010 Data continues to roll in on North Korean trains... 03-14-2010 Railroads in North and South Korea... Railroads and railroad tracks will be implemented to the FAF Korea map for both DPRK (North Korea) and ROK (South Korea). Rail lines, stations, marshaling yards, rail bridges, switches, and of course the trains themselves will be implemented to add more realism and to increase the number of targets available for strike missions.

03-13-2010 - FAF- Air Defenses in North Korea... Much improved air defense for the DPRK (North Korea) have been implemented to the battle map. To survive over North Korea will require use of jammers, SEAD strikes in support of strike flights, escorts, and a keen awareness of the location and effectiveness of the various threats. Not to mention you will absolutely have to learn how to evade the SAMs successfully to save chaff for the most deadly of the threats. SAMs are both command guidance as well as active radar seekers and infrared, with possible backup visual guidance that gives no launch warning... AAA includes both 130mm and 100 mm FLAK sites, where radar controlled guns can track and engage you up to 40,000 ft. I solved the issue of no gun flash, no bullet shapes when using FLAK effects at high altitude. In addition all airfields and SAM sites will have local airdefense made up of various sized guns and IR/radar SHORADS...

02-16-2010 - FINALLY was able to edit animationed polygons!!... I was finally able to edit the animated polygons on a shape and do it without altering any of the physical shape or create any instability... I was working on the Krivak shape, trying to relocate the roatating radar dish when I finally found the segment of the shape that houses the animated segment of skin. This is an entirely different way to animate the polygons vs say, the windmill, which animates sections of the physical shape itself. This instead is dealing with an animated skin section only. A 2D item only...

This should now make it possible for me to add rotating radar dishes to radar vehicles ...

01-21-2010 - Modelling SAMs... I have begun addressing the problems with the SAMs in FAF Korea... Right now older SAMs are just to easy to defeat with ECM. I will be cutting down the effectiveness of the ECM at the same time I increase the chance of the SAM missing if you are a maneuvering target... Before you could fly quite easily with the jammer active and survive all but the home on jam SAM. Now I am trying to make a more realeastic repreasentation where SOME of the time you will easily surive, while MOST of the time you will have to do some hard maneuvering to out maneuver the SAM to survive. You will have to find the missile and adjust your flight path to survive it, and if its a terminal seeker SAM like the SA-5 you will have to do some quick maneuvering when you get the final warning or you will be toast! IIRC the SA-2 required a 6G nose down break into the missile to make the missle overshoot...

Could use some help if anyone is interested in building a chart of SAMs and the required defensive maneuvers to break their lock, if any... Read more and see Screenshots on the VNFAWING Forums by clicking here ...

09-05-2010 - (From SimHQ) Hitex II for FF5... Hitex stands for High resolution Textures. At 1024x1024, the Hitex II Often textures are twice the size of the original FF5 resolution 512x512 textures, offering more detail and photorealism. In order to run the Hitex textures smoothly, you will need a reasonably modern system. An optional "lite" version, in the original FF5 resolution size, is provided usefull For Those with a bit older computers.

Note That most of the example textures or current FF5 are released by No Means bath textures, but they simply could be improved. Some more than others. FF5 The devs did a great job , but the ' Hitex 'graphics will certainly Falcon improves your experience further. You will see a 'before' and 'after' image, where after are the Hitex graphics.

07-16-2010 - (From SimHQ):: Hello fellow F4 Allied Force players. I am here to inform you all of the latest release of the F4AF Modification SkunkWorks. This is a massive database modification for Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. It includes new munitions, models, skins, campaigns, hires effects.

The Skunkworks Mod. A full blown effort to unlock the full potential of AF by increasing landscape & object detail, adding new aircraft & weapons, upgrading payload capabilities, fixing a number of glitches regarding aircraft, correcting all aspects of realism & a whole slew of things that will do nothing but enhance the experience of what we love to do. To Fly.

This project is not an attempt to rewrite the code or to make a new variant of Falcon like OF or FF, but to bring AF to the glory that it should be.

The installer is really quite simple it installs just as would any aftermarket campaign.

07-12-2010 - (From SimHQ)Some small modifications to F4AirbaseBrowser
http://users.telenet.be/rhamphor/F4AirbaseBrowser/

Version 2
*********

Send recon data to falcon:
Select the correct steerpoint when flying.Hit the LIST button on the ICP. Then the 1 button (DEST) to enter the destination page. Now you're ready to push in the correct coordinates for the selected steerpoint.Right click on the recon list and select 'Send Keystrokes'.

Conversion from NET framework 2.0 to NET framework 3.5

Version 1
*********

Recon data:
Full recon data for each airbase, extracted from F4 AF, patch 1.0.13

Map screen:
You can zoom and pan with your mouse, just like on the map in falcon.Primary and Divert fields are marked in blue.Info airfield is marked in orange.

Primary/Divert field:
Get these from recon screen in falcon.

Wind direction in degrees:
Get this value from the briefing screen (recon stage)Or via ICP -> CRUS (in-game)It wil calculate the correct runway into the wind (not right/left runway), when you have a primary/divert field set

Runways:
Bold-Red means 'Not prefered'. This runway isn't selected, even when it's best placed into the wind direction.Bold means 'Approach with caution, obstacles on glide path'

Colors for values of primary/divert field:
The program colors some values, when they don't correspond with the plane config/position.Green means correspond, red not.for example tacan, heading to divert/primary, runway with course on tacan.

Export:
Export airbasedata (tacan, runways, recondata, ...) to a text file. Can be used if you like to print the data.

Nearest airbases:
The number of airbases listed here depends on the displayNearest number in the ini file. You can dubbelclick on one line to directly display info for that field.

Hotkeys:
It's best, when you use hotkeys, to use a key modifier (shift, alt, ...)Because when the drop down have focus, for example the airbase drop down, pressing the c button directly jumps to airbases that begin with a c character.Otherwise you get strange results when pressing a button that performs 2 functionalities.

There is a ini file (and explanation file) included for modifying settings.
For screenshots, see download folder.
http://users.telenet.be/rhamphor/F4AirbaseBrowser/

It is compiled against the NET framework 3.5 (VS2008).
Program, source files and data files are included. Feel free to modify as you want.Bugs/suggestions are always welcome.

Special thanks to:
Red Dog (http://www.combatsimchecklist.net) for his excellent kneemaps.

Among the different implementations is worth remembering:

Three theaters (Korea, Balkans n Aegean)
Dynamic Weather
Dynamic temperature and pressure area
Turbulence
New flight model
New pyhsical model
New fuel management
Panel fault system and test fully functional
Cockpit only 3D version
Pointing system on the helmet
Sniper Pod XR
Campaign editor revisted
Recon screen revisted

-DX9 conversion
-new lights and shaders
-the most sofisticated FMs seen in a flightsim to date
-some new airbases

The intention 'to release a version without CTD (crash to desktop - return to the desktop) and bugs and a multiplayer solid as a rock. What you have in hand, and 'simulator light years away from anything on the market and do not want to hurry, get him out ahead of time as the opposite, and' was made by Microprose (yes, some developers / coders are the same as Microprose) at time of Falcon 4.0.

Special thanks to Homercide for the installer, easy one click and you are ready to go fly this mean machine.

The FF5 mod has a lot of F-4 types all using the same 2D and 3D cockpit, but this install limits to all the F-4 types that are used in Dogfight and Campaign. So the cockpit will show in the F-4G, F-4ESK, F-4E, F-4S and F-4DSK. The design of the cockpit is that of the F-4G.Of course the other variants can use the pit too with some small steps in case that is needed.

Here is a screenshot of the 2D pit:
http://www.cockpits.nl/lightbox/imagesphantom/03screenshotF4.jpg

Features list:
2D cockpit:

Photorealistic - cockpit with as real as possible functionality, within the limits of the Falcon simulator software.

Kneeboards - The right kneeboard has 12 pages of browsable checklists for preflight and rampstart, ETR (Enemy Treat Ranges), refueling checklist, landing checklists. Use left and right mouseclicks to browse. The left kneeboard is fully functional in every view since FF5 allows multiple kneeboards, and has briefing, map and steerpoint data.
