07-30-2008 - Another major break through has been made!! This time in relation to FAF multiplayer. The multiple router multiplayer connection bug that Aguada fixed for standard FA has been modified to work for the new FAF exe as well! Now any FAF player can connect, whether on a router or not, to another FAF player (or players) whether they are on routers or not. Previously, the original FA bug of only a single player, on a router, could fly with other all non routered pilots, and had to host the mission, or FAF would lockup at the verification window. FAF could not support more then 1 router. Now, thanks to mods of Aguada's original work, this is no longer the case! Any number, up to 8 FAF players, can connect, either on or off routers and fly multiplayer! This fix has been verified by Beta Testing and will be released in a patch for all FAF users when FAF Korea 2008 is released...

03-02-2008 Final F/A-18D version... This is the final version for the new F/A-18Ds... CAG based this off the improved F/A-18C shapes and skins and modified the canopy and added wingtip launch rails (that will also apprear on the C, E, & F versions as well). He still has some minor skin layout work to do, and has to make a CAG version of this bird as well as USMC versions. Overall though I like the new look for this bird and it fills a hole we had in FAF Korea with no flyable D versions with adquate shapes and skins... Click here for further details...

01-25-2008 - Airbase Arresting Barrier Systems. We have added an arrester cable barrier system to new FAF Runways. The actual cable is visible on the runway and can be engaged if your aicraft has a hook. All USAF FIghter have such a system, and of course all USN Fighters do as well, so this means that if you come in to land and your brakes are out and/or hydrolics and your gear and hook is down, you can trap the cable and survive the mission without having to eject. Also you can use this option for super fast reloading of your jet, by not having to taxi all the way back down the runway... Visit the Forums by Clicking here for further details...

03-11-2008 - (From SimHQ) Attrition War 67-73 Campaign for WOI Updated to VERSION 1.1
Download (ZIP, 28 KB)
Also Available at CombatAce
*Version 1.1*
This update lowers the intensity level from Version 1.0. Only enemy squadrons located nearest the border will be assigned missions. Supply has also been reduced for friendly and enemy squadrons. As a result, fewer enemy aircraft should appear in the air, better reflecting the limited nature of the historical conflict. Make no mistake, occasionally the campaign engine will generate large aerial engagements; this is historical, as well.
Some base assignments have also been altered to better reflect historical positioning. In particular, IAF 101 Squadron has been moved to Bir Gafgafa on the Sinai Peninsula. The IAF maintained a Mirage detachment there throughout the Attrition War period; expect plenty of action along the Suez Canal.
*The Campaign*
This campaign depicts the situation in the Middle East as it stood between June 1967 and October 1973. Based on the stock WOI Yom Kippur campaign, it begins in July 1967 and ends in September 1973. When combined with 'War for the Water' and 'Golan Stalemate,' the player can begin in 1963 and fly a continuous nineteen-year IAF career.
There will be no all-out air offensive; this is a long, limited conflict. Ground offensive has been disabled, so borders remain static. Supply is minimal, restricting the number of aircraft in the sky. Mission mix includes routine patrols punctuated by occasional strike missions into enemy territory. You may fly a maximum of fifty missions, roughly one every forty-five days.
IAF fighter and strike squadrons start out with their historical aircraft, entering the campaign at the time they were activated. Some squadrons will upgrade both their livery and their aircraft type during the course of the campaign.
The Soviets also make appearances in 1970 and 1971.

Unit Start Guide and Upgrade Path:
-- 69 Squadron (1969): F-4E Kurnass (no upgrade)
-- 101 Squadron (1967): Mirage III C Shahak (no upgrade)
-- 102 Squadron (1968): A-4H Ahit --> A-4F Ahit (1972)
-- 107 Squadron (1967): Mirage III C Shahak --> F-4E Kurnass (1971)
-- 109 Squadron (1967): A-4H Ahit --> A-4F Ahit (1972)
-- 110 Squadron (1968): A-4E Ahit (no upgrade)
-- 113 Squadron (1967): Mirage III C Shahak --> Mirage 5 Nesher (1972)

-- 116 Squadron (1970): A-4E Ahit (no upgrade)
-- 117 Squadron (1967): Mirage III C Shahak (no upgrade)
-- 119 Squadron (1967): Mirage III C Shahak --> F-4E Kurnass (1970)
-- 144 Squadron (1971): Mirage 5 Nesher (no upgrade)

*Version 1.1*
This update lowers the intensity level from Version 1.0. Only enemy squadrons located nearest the border will be assigned missions. Supply has also been reduced for friendly and enemy squadrons. As a result, fewer enemy aircraft should appear in the air, better reflecting the limited nature of the historical conflict. Make no mistake, occasionally the campaign engine will generate large aerial engagements; this is historical, as well.
*The Campaign*
This campaign depicts rising tensions between Israel and Syria from 1974 through 1982. Based on the stock WOI Lebanon War campaign, it begins in April 1974 and ends in May 1982. Played in sequence with the stock WOI campaigns, 'Golan Stalemate' allows for a continuous career from the start of the Yom Kippur War to the end of the Lebanon War. When combined with 'Attrition War' and "War for the Water," the player can begin in 1963 and fly a continuous nineteen-year IAF career.
There will be no all-out air offensive; 'Golan Stalemate' is a long, limited conflict. You will face Syrian aircraft in and around the Golan Heights and Lebanon. Ground offensive has been disabled, so borders remain static. Supply is minimal, restricting the number of aircraft in the sky. Mission mix includes routine patrols punctuated by occasional strike missions into enemy territory. You may fly a maximum of thirty-six missions, roughly one every ninety days.
IAF fighter and strike squadrons start out with their historical aircraft, entering the campaign at the time they were activated. Some squadrons will upgrade both their livery and their aircraft type during the course of the campaign.

03-08-2008 - (From SimHQ Forums) War for the Water 63-67 WOI Campaign VERSION 1.1
Download (ZIP, 18KB)
Also available at CombatAce
*Version 1.1*
This update lowers the intensity level from Version 1.0. Only enemy squadrons located nearest the border will be assigned missions. Supply has also been reduced for friendly and enemy squadrons. As a result, fewer enemy aircraft should appear in the air, better reflecting the limited nature of the historical conflict. Make no mistake, occasionally the campaign engine will generate large aerial engagements; this is historical, as well.
*The Campaign*
This campaign depicts intermittent border clashes that flared between Israel, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt from 1963 through 1967. These disputes began with disagreements over water rights in the region, slowly escalating into the Six Day War. Based on the stock WOI Six Day War campaign, 'War for the Water' begins in August 1963 and ends in May 1967.
Think of this campaign as a short prelude to the Six Day War. There will be no all-out air offensive; 'War for the Water' is a limited conflict. You will face Syrian and Jordanian aircraft in and around the Golan Heights. There might be encounters with Egyptian aircraft near the Sinai Peninsula, as well. Ground offensive has been disabled, so borders remain static. Supply is minimal, restricting the number of aircraft in the sky.
Mission mix includes routine patrols punctuated by occasional armed recon missions into enemy territory. You may fly a maximum of twelve missions, roughly one every hundred and twenty days. Played in sequence with the stock WOI campaigns, and combined with 'Attrition War' and 'Golan Stalemate', the player can begin in 1963 and fly a continuous nineteen-year IAF career.

2) Copy the TEROBJECT_BUILDINGS1.bmp file in this zip file to the ..\Wings Over Europe\Terrain\GermanyCE directory. Say yes if it asks to overwrite the existing file.
3) That's it, you're done. Run the game and enjoy the buildings!
=============================
Notes:
1) If you want to go back to the default buildings, just delete the terobject_buildings1.bmp files from the GermanyCE directory.

02-06-2008 - (From SimHQ Forums) Enhanced Terrain Set for Wings Over Europe
This terrain set is based on the Wings Over Europe default terrain tiles. It maintains the layout of the original terrain, and leverages many of the base textures. However, the overall color scheme, graininess, and shading of the original has been improved, along with many tweaks here and there. In addition, the tiles have been converted to 512x512 tiles, which improves some of the jagged edges and allows for some additional detail. The result is a terrain that still has a lot of the feel of the original terrain, but hopefully improves on it in many areas.
INSTRUCTIONS
1) Back up your existing ..\Wings Over Europe\Terrain\GermanyCE directory.
2) Unzip the contents of this zip file into the existing ..\Wings Over Europe\Terrain\GermanyCE directory. Say yes if it asks to overwrite existing files.
3) That's it, you're done. Run the game and enjoy the terrain!
Notes:
1) If you want to go back to the default terrain, just delete the new files from the GermanyCE directory.
2) If you had some other terrain installed and want to go back to it, just copy everything from the GermanyCE backup directory to the current GermanyCE directory (you did back it up, right?). Or, just re-install the other terrain on top of this terrain.
3) Paint Shop Pro 8 was used to edit the tiles (except it does not handle targa file properly, had to switch back to ver 7 for this.)

02-02-2008 - (From SimHQ) FORMOSA STREET TERRAIN

Formosa terrain is made for WOE.
=========================
Version 0.1 Beta Preview
This are the results of the first steps of terrain development. See it as a preview for further developments. It is intended to show you the basic terrain and to give you a feeling what it will be to fly over Taiwan.
Formosa Street terrain covers the island of Taiwan, the Street of Formosa (Taiwanhixai) between Taiwan and China and the coastal region of the Peoples Republic of China. The terrain is not one of the usual 60% scale terrains, i tried to bring the size to nearly 100 %, so that the distances between the target areas should be nearly correct. The mountains are still a little bit to high, but this will change when i will smooth the terrain.
For the tiling i decided to use the WOE standard tileset. For later improvements i think i should create a better fitting tileset, but for the first steps the WOE tileset should work properly.
The tiling is 90% done. You will find towns, farmland, wood and grasland on the map. The shorelines still have to be checked, dont be angry if you see "water climbing the hill". It will be corrected in a later phase of development. Rivers and a road system will have to come too.
Today you will find 107 target areas. These are 41 industrial targets in China, 44 industrial targets in Taiwan, 15 taiwanese airfields and 7 chinese airfields. While the industrial targets are in a good shape, the airbases are still only sceletons. You will find only the runways, no buildings, no defences. The SAM network is still also not yet implemented.
In v0.1 Beta Preview you can fly air to air missions, recon and strike missions with no problems. CAS, armed recon, anti ship, SEAD will not work properly.

INSTALLATION

Thats it.

Formosa Street terrain is freeware.
If you find bugs please post them in StrikeFighters section of Combatace.com forum.

Hope you enjoy it.

Creator: Major Dragon
Aircraft: F-14
Theater: Iraq

The Operation Enduring Freedom campaign contains missions that are based upon the air combat missions that were flown by VF-41 from the USS Enterprise, as well as other F-14 squadrons, during the opening weeks of the war on al-Qaeda terrorists and the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. The missions included in this set represent a sample of the types of missions that were flown by F-14 Tomcats during this operation, as described in the book F-14 Tomcat Units of Operation Enduring Freedom by Tony Holmes and in the magazine Air Forces Monthly.

Creator: Major Dragon
Aircraft: F-18
Theater: Iraq

The Warbirds campaign is a simple linear campaign based upon the book The Warbirds by Richard Herman. This hypothetical campaign follows an F/A-18 squadron assigned to a land-base in Saudi Arabia, as it engages in air combat against Iranian ground, naval, and air forces. The book is an excellent read and can be picked up for a buck or two at any used paperback book store. Read the book and you will enjoy flying the campaign more...

TSH JF-18 News

06-09-2008 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject: NORTH CAPE FOREST MOD

CHARACTERISTICS:

This mod permanently adds forest objects to the Jane's F-18 North Cape terrain population (ncape.ins). The forest objects can be seen on A/G radar as single dots.
There are around 300 individual forest objects placed on the map. Each object comprises 60 trees spanning an area roughly 1nm x 0.6nm. As a result, there are aproximately 18,000 trees on the map. The object are somewhat evenly spaced (depending on the terrain configuration) at around 15-30nm. Norway and Sweden (rougher terrain) have fewer trees than Finland and Russia (flatter terrain).
The modified ncape.ins with trees, similar to original ncape.ins, supports roughly 1,000 additional single stationary ground objects on the map. When more than these 1,000 objects are added via the Mission Builder, objects begin to visually drop out of missions. Note that while SAM and AAA might be dropped and not visible when in the game, these objects do appear on the EW screen and they still can engage and destroy you since the bullets and missiles become visible once released. Unfortunately, these objects can't be destroyed since they aren’t physically present.
The object limits have always existed in Jane's F-18. Careful avoidance of object limit exceedances is made when high-object-count missions are developed. Since the modified ncape.ins included in this mod already has hundreds of new objects present, careful object placement will be needed when creating missions. Depending on of how many objects are contained in an individual plugin, the following elements should be able to be used in a mission:
a. 100+ small SAM11/13/15 AAA23/85/100plugins (usual build around 6-10 objects)
b. 70+ large SAM10/11/13/15/ or AAA23/85/100 plugins (around 10-14 objects)
c. 35+ Airbases (around 28-38 objects)
d. 15+ Ammo depot (61 objects- biggest plugin object vise)
e. 25+ Large POL farm (37 objects)
f. Minimum 20 object-large factories or 80+ smaller factories (anywhere between 12-50 objects)
g. 50+ smaller objects like artillery platoon/company, tank platoon/company, mechanized platoon/company, SOC, EW, SIGINT, CRC, etc. (around 6-18 objects)
Since permanent forest objects were added to the ncape.ins file, the default ground object density has been reduced in the lower 40nm part of the Jane's F-18 North Cape world. This allows for missions to contain same number of user-added stationary ground objects/plugins as in the original ncape.ins, before they start to drop out of the mission. This part of the terrain is not used in any existing North Cape campaign and is very rarely used by mission builders. Thus, the removal of default ground objects (e.g. bridges, lighthouses, buildings) in this area is not likely to be noticeable to the vast majority of users.
The tree mod itself is completely harmless and can’t corrupt any install, since it merely provides a replacement for the original ncape.ins. If one does not like the outcome replace the modified files with the inlcuded original files. Click here to go to read more...
