FA Futures/FA-2 News

12-01-2005 - New 'Home on Jam'weapons guidance has been completed for FAF Korea! The new seeker head will allow you target and attack any aircraft radiating its jammer if your aircraft can carry the AMRAAM, R-77 Amramski, or AIM-54C Phoenix missile. The new seeker has been tested in multiplayer and allows the pilot armed with this weapon to engage any aircraft that is using only its jammer. The bandit does not have to be radiating its radar and can even be 'notching' your radar by beaming you to hide and your HOJ missile will allow you to engage the bandit at long range. However if the bandit is a savvy player himself and he discontinues the use of his jammer your HOJ missile will miss. These new missiles have all new shapes with high resolution skins and are all multiplayer compatible. Read more on the VNFAWING Forums by clicking here ...

08-12-2005 - Another major break through has been made!! This time in relation to FA and FAF multiplayer. The multiple router multiplayer connection bug has been fixed! Now any player can connect, whether on a router or not, to another player (or players) whether they are on routers or not. Previously only a single player, on a router, could fly with other all non routered pilots, and had to host the mission, or FA would lockup at the verification window. FA could nto support more then 1 router. Now, thanks to Aguada, this is no longer the case! Any number, up to 8 players, can connect, either on or off routers and fly multiplayer! This fix has been verified by Beta Testing and will very soon be released in a patch for all users...

Falcon 4.0 News
06-28-2005 - (From Lead-Pursuit.com)The most anticipated flight sim for years is officially released.
Falcon 4.0: Allied Force sets a new benchmark in advanced military flight simulators for the home computer. Tens of thousands of hours have been invested in the key features including artificial intellience, fully-dynamic campaign engine, graphics, multiplayer and the theater of operations.
We hope Falcon 4.0: Allied Force will reinvigorate the hardcore military flight simulation market and appeal to new players, just as Falcon 4.0 - and its predecessors - appealed to each one of us. Lead Pursuit hopes that this release will mark a new beginning in the simulation market for the intelligent flight simulation enthusiast. The Falcon name, which has a tremendous heritage, will continue to be honored by Lead Pursuit. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and extend a special thanks to our partners.
    BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, the successor of Falcon 4.0, is an advanced F-16 combat flight simulator for the PC. The player takes on the role of a pilot flying a multitude of missions in either the Balkans Theater of Operations or the Korean Theater of Operations in a fully dynamic, evolving war.
    Features include:
Multiple threads in the code for true Dual Core processor support
    Revamped graphics engine
    Reworked multiplayer engine
    Highly advanced artificial intelligence
716 page advanced .pdf manual, 110-page "new player" printed manual
    Reworked dynamic campaign engine
    Brand new theater of operations
New high resolution models and cockpits
    Highly detailed terrain and airbases
    Intuitive User Interface
The graphics engine supports real-time terrain lighting, dynamically-shaded 3D volumetric clouds and alpha-blended scattered clouds. Fog is also implemented and combined with new high resolution textures on models and the terrain, the visuals are tremendously improved. Highly detailed and clickable cockpits for three different F-16 aircraft are included: the Block 50/52, 40/42 and MLU variants.
The multiplayer engine features a new, problem-free connection method with support for a centralized, server-system style of play for Internet and Local Area Network (LAN) games. Performance and reliability have been greatly improved for both customer made missions and campaign flights.
The Dynamic Campaign Engine (DCE) is the war simulator where any event happening in any part of the theater of combat affects the war's direction throughout that theater. How you perform in your mission directly, and proportionately, determines what happens elsewhere. This is true for the tens of thousands of computer controlled entities in the game. It means that the player really feels part of a living war environment, part of something that is evolving around them in real time.
Some of the greatest changes have been to improve the interaction of computer controlled aircraft and the hundreds of ground entities in Falcon 4.0: Allied Force. Thousands of hours of work has led to remarkable improvements in artificial intelligence. During missions, computer-controlled aircraft will perform with precision. The role of the Forward Air Controller (FAC) is now implemented, allowing the player to co-operate with other flight aircraft when carrying out ground attacks. Brand new Air Traffic Control (ATC) intelligently manages the flights in and out of bases.
The F-16's electronic systems simulated in Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, including the avionics, are the most realistic for the home personal computer. Numerous modes and sub-modes in air-to-air and air-to-ground radar are accurately implemented to immerse the player in the feel of operating a modern combat aircraft.
The new theatre of operations is the Balkans. There are three time periods stretching from the mid-1990s to 2010, featuring appropriate aircraft, squadrons, and units. Each theater period has three campaigns, making nine in totaly for the Balkans. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force also features a heavily revised Korean theater and associated campaigns.

05-08-2005 - (From Frugalsworld.com)A new dev note was posted today at Lead Pursuit:
Immersion is vital in a simulation. It helps propel a player into a world where they can forget that they are in a game. Immersion can be achieved in many ways. Graphics provide the visual cues to help the player feel part of this artificial world. Sound adds another important dimension.
One of the most appreciated features of the Falcon series is the “Artificial Intelligence” -- or AI -- of entities which exist in the Falcon world. AI is all about the way that everything in this Virtual Universe acts and reacts to all aspects of the simulation. It is what helps make the game feel alive.
In these development notes, Lead Pursuit’s Sylvain Gagnon assesses the changes to the “air” component. Click here to visit the Lead Pursuit Website to read further.

04-25-2005 - (From Sim-News.com) 'Falcon 4.0: Allied Force' Announcement:
Lead Pursuit LLC and Graphsim Entertainment Inc. have officially annnounced Falcon 4.0: Allied Forcetoday. This announcement comes following a flood of news from various sources including the pre-order availability of the title through Amazon.com. Here is the official announcement:
Just over five years ago, a military flight simulation took the PC games industry by storm. Falcon 4.0 was a game like no other and led to a following like no other. Years of development produced an F-16 simulator with legendary features such as a truly dynamic campaign engine, unrivalled depth of avionics and remarkable levels of artificial intelligence.
Quite simply, Falcon 4.0 was the most important game of its type in a generation because it made gameplay intoxicating.
This summer, Lead Pursuit LLC, in association Graphsim Entertainment Inc., brings the spirit of Falcon 4.0 back to life with a totally updated simulator for 2005. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force pushes the boundaries once again for today’s demanding gaming enthusiast.
    Features include:
    Revamped graphics engine
    Reworked multiplayer engine
    Highly advanced artificial intelligence
    Reworked dynamic campaign engine
    Brand new theater of operations
New high resolution models and cockpits
    Highly detailed terrain and airbases
    Intuitive User Interface
Kurt Giesselman, CEO of Lead Pursuit LLC, said: "We're tremendously proud to bring Falcon 4.0 bang up-to-date for 2005. All of us at Lead Pursuit are among the most enthusiastic supporters of the Falcon brand and honor its extraordinary heritage and reputation. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force sets new standards in fidelity, realism and sheer player enjoyment. The legend really has returned."
Falcon 4.0: Allied Force in more detail:
The graphics engine supports real-time terrain lighting, dynamically-shaded 3D volumetric clouds and alpha-blended scattered clouds. Fog is also implemented and combined with new high resolution textures on models and the terrain, the visuals are tremendously improved. Highly detailed and clickable cockpits for three different F-16 aircraft are included: the Block 50/52, 40/42 and MLU variants.
The multiplayer engine features a new, problem-free connection method with support for a centralized, server-system style of play for internet and Local Area Network (LAN) games. Performance and reliability have been greatly improved for both custom made missions and campaign flights.
Perhaps the most important feature of Falcon 4.0: Allied Force is the Dynamic Campaign Engine (DCE). This is the war simulator where any event happening in any part of the theater of combat affects the war's direction throughout the theater.
Identify and lock up targets just as they do in the real jet: feel the gut-wrenching adrenaline flow when the defensive electronic systems indicate a surface to air missile launch against your aircraft.
The new theater of operations is the Balkans. There are three time periods stretching from the mid-1990s to 2010, featuring appropriate aircraft, squadrons and units. Each theater period has three campaigns, making nine in total for the Balkans. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force also features a heavily revised Korean theater and associated campaigns.
Our most important feature is stability. At Lead Pursuit, it's the cornerstone of everything we do. Any new development or enhancement of the product has been extensively tested through classic play and with new dedicated, custom-made software running the equivalent of many thousands of hours of the simulation. Lead Pursuit is proud of the level of stability achieved in Falcon 4.0: Allied Force.
The expected release date is June 28, 2005.

Falcon 4.0 News
02-03-2005 - (From F4 Community)Robviper posted a little update about the new Theater Operation Iraqi Freedom which is currently being worked on. IMO this is one of the most promising threater projects currently going on. It is based on the former ODS512 Theater which already featured 512x512 pixel terrain tiles. Now if these guys further improve it (back then it never left beta state) and maybe Zaggy can allow them to use his terrain interpolator to create a good L2 map (so the elevations such as dunes get done in good detail) and they get some good campaigns done, this thing could really be a stunning release.
But see for yourself - the screenies already speak for them self !

01-17-2005 - (From F4 Community)Well-- the release of the Cobra Patch is doubius to say at least. As such there are many that don't support this release. Apparently one (or some) of the BMS team members decided for themself to release this patch on their own - without knowledge or permission of BMS as a group. Of course this caused a lot of bad feelings. Anyway. Cat is out of the bag now. The exe apparently is a BMS 2.x with all Features known from BMS 2.0 and weather enabled (which was disabled since 1.03). Additional Major features consist of an IFF implementation, automatic nightpit loading, hot pit refueling, working carrierops and numerous bugfixes. Details on all features and bugfixes can be found in the included manual.
At the moment we don't host the patch ourselfs but a mirrorlist can be found below.
Mirrors:
No mirrors are available as no one is willing to host this patch after the circumstances of its release have unfolded to everyone.
Lomac Flaming Cliffs News

05-30-2005 - (From SimHQ) SimHQ has published a complete review of the LOCK ON: Flaming Cliffs addon for, you guessed it, LOCK ON: Modern Air Combat.
"Flaming Cliffs is really a $35.00 throwback to a simpler time in simming, when games studied one airplane, just one, and simulated it closely. And it is only fitting, really, that this most Russian company wanted to look at that most quintessentially simple, and so very Russian combat aircraft, the KnaAPO / Sukhoi Su-25. Known as the “Frogfoot” to the West, and the "Rook" to the Russians and former Soviet air forces that fly it, the Su-25 family is one of the most famous combat aircraft of the modern era."...

01-28-2005 - (From SimHQ) There is a 2 part preview of the upcoming follow up to LOMAC posted by SimHQ:
The Su-25T has access to the first true low-light level vision system in Flanker history. The Russians use a system known as Mercuriy to allow use of optically launched weapons in low-light conditions. Mercuriy is sort of a giant, aircraft-carried version of the AN/PVS-4 Starlight Scope that American soldiers got used to in Vietnam days. Bringing this online gives you the ability to add image intensification to the IT-3M display. You can lock and fire at night with it! You can even navigate, like an American A-10 pilot using an IR Maverick for hip-pocket night-vision in the days before NV goggles became standard for U.S. pilots. You can track targets with gun pods day or night, using the Shkval and Mercuriy together. Details: The selectable gun pods will actually track targets you lock with the system! ...

I understand from forum posts that a few more have succeeded as well. Some have had problems that were solved by doing a clean install, patching, then correctly installing the following addons (per Check 6 forums): Aircraft:
Official A-4F, Official F-4J, F-14 MP multiplayer dedicated version, A-4ESE V2.0, Mig-23, Mig-25, Mirage III C,F-8D, Saab J-35F
Mig-15 UTI, T-33A, F-5A, F-11F
Skins:
Multi camo F-4 pack, Tiger VF-121, Tiger VT-23, F-5A Canadian Skin
Weapons:
Light weaponspack
Terrain:
Gepard Israel V1.4, Kosovo by USAFMTL, DRV terrain
Note: T-33B has been deleted and F-5A has been added.
Initially, I have the server set to 1975 with desert terrain. This should be perfect for those wanting to try F-14s vs MiG-23s and MiG-25s. Post any requests for other years/terrains here in this thread. I am going to give this a couple of weeks to see if it is more popular than WOV. If not, I will go back to hosting WOV.I am working long hours, so I can't actually play very much right now. Also, my internet connection periodically goes out and crashes my server. It may be as long as two days before I notice since I am working very long hours. I will try to do a fresh boot daily to make sure it runs as well as possible. You can Click here to read further...

06-23-2005 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject: THE ULTIMATE PATCH.The Ultimate Patch does two things:
1. Modifies F18.exe so that future patches are easier to implement from a developer's standpoint (modifications can be made in C++ instead of assembly code).
2. Adds TrackIR enhanced support to Jane's F/A-18.
-------------
COMPATIBILITY:
The Ultimate Patch is compatible with Jane's F/A-18 as long as the 1.01F patch and TSHv1 are installed. It is compatible with TSHv2 (the Iraq Paq) and WarfareFix, but those addons are not required for use. TrackIR enhanced support will work with any version of the TrackIR hardware (TrackIR, TrackIR2, TrackIR3, and TrackIR3 Pro). The vector expansion capability present in TrackIR3 and TrackIR3 Pro hardware is not implemented. If you are using a TrackIR 3 or a TrackIR 3 Pro, you must use the latest software from Naturalpoint. You must then update your games list so that it includes Jane's F-18. Without an updated games list, your TrackIR 3 or TrackIR 3 Pro will not activate when Jane's F-18 is started.
-------------
ULTIMATE PATCH CHARACTERISTICS:
- Use the mouse for cockpit functions and control your view naturally at the same time.
- No centering problems prevalent in mouselook mode.
- Snap views and padlocks still work as before.
- RECENTER_TIR key command is available for mapping in-game.
-------------
KNOWN ISSUES:
Deadzones in Jane's F-18 may be need to be larger than in other sims for equivalent view stability.
-------------
CHANGE LOG
1.0 - initial release
1.01 - readme updated and clarified

06-22-2005 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject:: OBJECTS PACKAGE PART 1 ver1.6. The Objects Package Part 1 ver1.6 is a version of the TSH Objects Package Part 1 designed to be compatible with the F-18E Cockpit ver2.0. (See previous news item below) Objects Package Part 1 ver1.4 installs its own cockpit textures for the F-18E, so ver1.6 was created to separate these textures and allow them to be developed separately from an Objects Package.
--------------
COMPATIBILITY:
Objects Package Part 1 ver1.6 requires that the 1.01F patch and TSHv1 are intalled. If you are not using the F-18E cockpit ver2.0, you should continue to use Objects Package Part 1 ver1.4. Objects Package Part 1 ver1.6 will work with TSHv2 (the Iraq Paq) and WarfareFix, but those addons are not required for use. Click here to go to the TSH Site to download...

06-22-2005 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject: F-18E_Cockpit_v2.0.zip. The F-18E cockpit replaces all of the stock F-18 cockpit textures with high resolution versions based on the real F-18E cockpit. This gives the cockpit panels a much more crisp and clean look.
--------------
COMPATIBILITY:
The F-18E cockpit requires that the 1.01F patch is installed. It also requires that TSHv1 is intalled and that Objects Package Part 1 ver1.6 (available at the TSH website) is in use. The F-18E cockpit will work with TSHv2 (the Iraq Paq) and WarfareFix, but those addons are not required for use. Click here to go to the TSH Site to download...

04-05-2005 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject: soundmanager.zip Now Available! Author Doc. WHAT IS SOUND MANAGER? Sound Manager is an addon for Jane's F-15 and Jane's F/A-18 that allows playing of in-game sounds and extraction of these sounds to .wav format. These sounds may then be edited, replaced, or otherwise manipulated, and recombined into either sim. The utility was written many years ago by Datajack, then a member of Team Superhornet. It was lost in the shuffle, only to be revived by Frenchy, tweaked slightly, and deemed ready for release. Credit for the initial hard work belongs to Datajack.
COMPATIBILITY:
The Sound Manager is compatible with Jane's F/A-18 as long as the 1.01F patch is installed. It will work with TSHv1, TSHv2 (the Iraq Paq), and WarfareFix, but those addons are not required for use. Multiplayer flights where the host and client(s) have different activated sounds will not cause a problem. The Sound Manager has been tested only minimally for use with Jane's F-15. The use of the 1.17 patch is recommended. Additional info is in the readme contained in soundmanager.zip.

02-14-2005 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject: Warfarefix2005-02-14.zip Now Available! Author Doc. Excerpt from README for Warfarefix2005-02-14.zip:
WarfareFix is an addon for Jane's F-18 that adds many new aircraft and weapons and modifies all radar information. Thus, it changes the very essence of the sim, as the behavior of missiles and weapons/tracking radars has changed. WarfareFix definitely makes the sim harder, but the effort has been made to make things as realistic as possible. The readme in Warfarefix2005-02-01.zip has been improved, and the readme in WarTools2005.zip contained in Warfarefix2005-02-01.zip has been improved, thereby resulting in Warfarefix2005-02-14.zip .

JayP's landmark campaign Karelskaya II (with additional missions and editing by Ripcord, updated ctexte file by Recluse, installer by BigDaddy, and management by Doc) is now available. 01-16-2005 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject: The JF-15 Campaign Converted to JF/A-18 Is Fixed, Author Doc. The Jane's F-15 Iran campaign converted by M@verick to Jane's F/A-18 was originally released as Iran_Campaign.zip. After Iran_Campaign.zip was released, a few community members found that the AI form-up command in the missions where the player is escorted by one or more AI flights made the AI aircraft try and fly into the player. This has been fixed, and the fixed campaign is iran_campaign_escort_fix.zip. Jane's F/A-18, the official Jane's F/A-18 v1.01 patch, the TSH v1 add-on (including both TSH Objects Package Part 1 and 2), and the TSH v2 ("Iraq Paq") add-on are required to play these missions. All required add-on files can be found at the TSH Website below. 01-09-2005 - (From Team Super Hornet) Subject: Bombcats Over Bosnia Campaign Now Available, Author Doc. The Bombcats Over Bosnia campaign is designed to recreate the air combat missions flown from the USS Roosevelt by the Black Aces (VF-41) over Bosnia-Herzegovina during Operation Deny Flight and Operation Deliberate Force between 1993 and 1995.The Bombcats Over Bosnia campaign is the prequel to Major Dragon's Black Aces Over Kosovo campaign. As with BAOK, Major Dragon's goal was to provide the JF18 community a historically based air combat experience and provide a "new" theatre of operations in the Balkans. As with Major Dragon's past missions, he has tried to be as faithful as possible to the historical account. However, he has taken creative liberty by having VF-41 fly some of the missions that were actually flown by USAF aircrews with the 5th Allied Tactical Air Force stationed in Italy. The missions are flown using the North Cape Theatre to represent the Balkans region. The Baltic terrain file (by Blitz) is provided and can be used as an option to the Northcape terrain. To add to the realism of the campaign, other files are also provided for optional use. Major Dragon wants to thank Ripcord, without whose time and help this campaign would not have been possible. IMPORTANT NOTE: These missions were written using the TSH v1 F14 add-on. Jane's F/A-18, the offical Jane's F/A-18 v1.01 patch, the TSH v1 add-on (including both TSH Objects Package Part 1 and 2), are required to play these missions. All required addon files can be found at: the TSH website below. Bombcats.zip can be accessed by clicking on "Missions", then clicking on "All Missions", then clicking on "Download" following "File name Bombcats.zip"... Click here to read further...
