I vote for the Typhoon. I know it is faster than the Spitfire and the Sea Fury is the navalized version of the Typhoon, which is heavier than the Typhoon for naval service and maybe slower.
Of the US fighters, the P 51 is the fastest, but slower than the Typhoon.
I hope I am right.
This post should break the ice.

I would like to change my vote, if I could. I remembered seeing the answer to poll question on the Military Channel. The plane was final devolopment of pistion engine for a fighter plane attaining the highest speed.

Sorry Pappy, you cant change your vote...
Besides getting the answer from the MIL channel is cheating! _________________ CAG Hotshot

Say what? ...
Where on earth did you get that from?
I have used the MIL channel a few times as inspiration, but never said the majority, much less all, of the polls came from that channel... _________________ CAG Hotshot

Looks like this poll has played itself out...
So I will post the answer here...
The Hawker Fury Mark II had a top speed of 485 MPH, and as such was one of the fastest on this list. unfortunately this aircraft did not serve in WWII and thus does not qualify as the right answer for this poll...
The P-51H had a top speed of 487 MPH but also did not make it into operational service prior to the end of WWII so it also does not qualify...
That leaves the P-47M with its top speed of 473 MPH as the correct answer for this poll. P-47Ms accounted for all 4 jet kills for the 56th Fighter Group,... _________________ CAG Hotshot
