Im going to guess F-84 Thunderjet because it and its derivatives seem to be right on the threshhold of supersonic flight.
And besides, with the odds being 1/6, Im going to get one of these polls one of these days... _________________

It sounds exactly like a thunder boom, since that is exactly what it is...
Lighting moves super heated air beyond the speed of sound (obviously) and generates a sonic boom, which is the thunder you hear during a storm.

The electric discharge heats the air to incandescance, leaving a vaccum. The surrounding air rushes in and smashes against itself, propagating a lot of sound waves. _________________

Well I was trying to defend your position with F/O, but if you really want to get technical, then No your WRONG...
The vacuum is indeed generated, but the lightining bolt super heats the air first, causing the supersonic expansion and the boom, then collapses back into the vacuum causing the echoes of the sound waves.

LOL
Well, that sounds pretty damn technical so I guess I have to bow down.
Just repeating verbatum what the Encarta encyclopedia told me. _________________

Your choices are...
F-80 Shootingstar
F-84 Thunderjet
F-86 Sabrejet
F-100 SuperSabre
F-101 Voodoo
F-102 DeltaDart
Cast you vote and post your opinon on why you chose the aircraft you did!

I will vote it was the F100. The 80, 84, and 86 were subsonic,I believe. I put those two words in to avoid embrassment. CAG is shrewd and knows his stuff.

Pappy!!
Welcome back to posting again!
Glad to have you here on the forums contributing again!
Got to say, you choice makes sense, but was it the first fighter to do so in USAF service? That is the question...
