There are a few possible answers here. The V-2 rocket is certainly a contender but the date it made it's 107 mile height record is not on the list. Therefore I will vote for 1957 because of Sputnik! |

Ok I think I was to vague with this one, and then worded it wrong initially...
So... I am going to end this poll and start another...
1918... First manmade object leaves stratosphere. German gunners manning the "Paris Gun' shoot shells from 78 miles away and hit Paris. The shells actualy arc outside the stratosphere during flight...
1942... First manmade object leaves atmosphere. First V-2 missile leaves the atmosphere, thus the first object that leave the atmosphere...
1957... First manmade object orbits the earth. Russian Sputnik satellite achives Orbit...
1962... First man into space as RUssains Launch Yuri Gagarin into orbit...
