CAG

I vote for Lt.Cmd. John McCain's ride, the A-4 Skyhawk. Cool It was a workhorse attack plane of the Vietnam War. This is a tough question for several reasons. You are a former SLUF driver, the A-1 was withdrawn from attack roles because of losses, and A-6 was a very active attack aircraft. The other planes were able to evade threats and take of themselves better.

So I just guessed. Smile Smile

So where is everyone else on this poll question? Confused Confused

Regards,
Pappy

I vote for the A-4! I think it would have been particularly vulernable in its attack role, and it was very active over Nam.

True, but dont forget that the A-4 was replaced in USN service early in the Vietnam War. A-6s and A-7s took over the Alpha strikes and the only A-4s left in combat in Vietnam were Marine Corp, but this poll isnt about Marine Corp aircraft... Cool

I voted for the F-4 because it was in the theater the entire time. The first and last us navy kills were made by Phantoms so they obviously were in the majority of missions, so logically they would have one of, if the not the, highest loss rates.

He's waiting for me to embarrass myself, so here goes:
I voted A-7 because the USN thew a lot of them at the NV for a long time and it had a tough job to perform.

I'm not sure the NAVY used the St Louis Slugger too often for strike missions.
I also have to say that the lil A-4 was given absolutely horrendous missions with questionable intel and tactics at the start of that war.

One might think so by my lack of response lately. Unfortunately I have been flat on my back for over a week due to wrenching it...

Now that I have semi-recovered I will address this poll.

So ... Here is the answer: The A-4 Skyhawk...

Flew more missions over the North, where the majority of losses were, and stacked up more lossed then any other naval aircraft in the Vietnam War...

So those that voted for Heinemann's Hot Rod are the winners in this poll!

Congrats Pappy! (Sorry Kap!)

oh well.
Get well soon bud, I was on my back for two straight months so I know what you're going through.
I'm still putting the pieces back together on this puter due to an intrusion ( the fake Windows Security Center trojan ) had to re-format the main HD as nothing else helped. Almost done but I lost every one of my browser links. Guns, planes, RADAR, all gone Sad

Don't worry about it bud, I've still got my hands full here and am hoping to go back to work this week. Is your back problem related to the Martin Baker fan club incident?
