The answer to this poll is, of course, the B-24 LIberator!

While it is true that the B-17 is the more well known USAAF bomber, the B-24 out produced it on the assembly lines...

The B-24 was flown by both the USAAF and the USN (as the PB4Y Privateer), as well as RAF Bomber Command, Coastal Command, and the RCAF (As the LIberator Mk I - Mk IX)

Total production was 18,482

For comparison, 12,731 B-17s were built during the war...

The Lib was faster, carried a bigger load over a longer range and better protected than the B-17, it was litterally better in every way AFAIK.

No, not better protected. The "Flying Boxcar" had some very vulnerable fuel tanks and carried less 50 cals then the flying fortress. More were lost to enemy action as well.

She was a fine aircraft though, and a much more advanced design, superior aerodynamics, tricycle landing gear, etc, but still came up short when compared to the B-17s big brother, the B-29...

Didnt the Lib have the big 20mm nose turret??? The "Swoose" was a B-17 that had the B-24 turret grafted onto the nose.

B-17s carried up to 13x50 Cal guns (On the G model they had 4 twin 50 cal gun turrets and 5 single mount 50 cals).

B-24s carried up to 10x50 Cal guns (On the H model onwards they had 4 twin 50 cal gun turrets and 2 single mount 50 cals).

Only the B-29 carried a 20mm and that was in the tail...
