CAG I picked the XB-60, since it was a stopgap program incase the B-52 failed I figured it would have to come after the B-52.

I chose XB-52 because I remember hearing something about a B-52 that had inline twin seating (like many fighters e.x. F-14) the nose can change, that pointy nose may have been high speed test version.

now that my knowledge has grown, it looks like a horrible mess, with a circular shaped fuselage, thick wings, green house canopy, pointy nose, almost want to believe its a B-36 test bed for the B-52's engines and tail

Its the XB-60 of course! 
The all jet version of the B-36!
It has a new tail and wings and all jet propulsion.
It was a fall back aircraft, incase the B-52 failed to provide the promised performance. Once the B-52 flew, everyone knew the XB-60 was dead!
